Jim: Mr. Trano? what's going on?

Beck: I'm agent Michele Beck with the Department of Securities Fraud. Your boss, Mr. Trano, contacted us a few weeks ago to report a possible breach of corporate trading laws. We've been investigating you and Mr.Newcastle over at Johnson & Richards. Mr.Newcastle has confessed to the whole think and he has named you as one of his co-conspirators.

Jim: He did what!?

Mr.Trano: Now Jim, don't get excited. I'm afraid the chips are heavily stacked against you on this one. I suggest you co-operate with Agent Beck.

Beck: Do you have anything to say for yourself, James.

Jim: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. (to himself) I can't believe he ratted me out.

Beck: James McNeal, you are under arrest for securities fraud. You have the right to remain silent.

(Beck escorts Jim out of the office, and continues reading him his rights).

Mr.Trano: I wish it didn't have to be this way. What a waste.

We know from the previous dialogue that Mr. Trano called the Department of Securities Fraud. So, in this final dialogue of the series Jim is caught and arrested for his crime.

What's worse, his friend Sean has named Jim as someone who helped plan and execute the crime (a co-conspirator). However, it was Sean who approached Jim; they didn't work together to get this insider information. So, while Jim is guilty, Sean has made it seem that Jim had a bigger part in the scandal than he actually does. That's why Jim says, "he ratted me out." To rat someone out means to confess and betray that person. Usually if one person is caught for a crime he will betray his companions in order to get a more lenient sentence.

Securities fraud is a type of "white collar crime" which is to say corporate crime.

前回のダイアログからおわかりでしょうが、ミスター・トラノは、証券詐欺部に電話をしました。したがって、シリーズ最終回のこのダイアログでは、ジムは捕まり、インサイダー取引の罪で逮捕されます。

さらに悪いことに、友人のショーンは、計画を助け犯罪を実行した人物（共犯者）として、ジムの名前を挙げていたのです。ジムに近づいたのはショーンですし、２人で協力してインサイダー情報を手に入れたわけではありません。ですから、ジムが罪を犯したのは事実ですが、ショーンは、ジムが実際よりも多く加担したように証言しているのです。ジムが"he ratted me out"とつぶやくのは、このためです。To rat someone out とは、その人のことを白状し、裏切るという意味です。犯罪で１人が捕まると、その人が判決を軽くしてもらうために仲間を裏切るというのはよくある話ですよね。

証券詐欺は、"ホワイトカラー犯罪"つまり企業犯罪の１種です。

Jim: ミスター・トラノ？どうしたんです？

Beck: 私は、証券詐欺捜査官、ミッシェル・ベックです。数週間前にあなたの上司、ミスター・トラノから、会社取引法違反の可能性があるという連絡を受けて、あなたとジョンソン＆リチャードのミスター・ニューキャッスルを捜査していました。ミスター・ニューキャッスルは、あらいざらい白状して、共犯者の１人としてあなたの名前を挙げました。

Jim: 彼が何をしたって！？

Mr.Trano: ジム、興奮しないで。君に勝ち目はないようだ。ベック捜査官に協力したほうがいい。

Beck: 何か言うことは、ジェームズ。

Jim: すみません、本当にすみません。(自分自身に)まさか彼が僕を密告するなんて。

Beck: ジェームズ・マクニール、証券詐欺の罪で逮捕する。君には黙秘権がある。
(ベックはジムをオフィスの外へ連行し、さらに権利を読み上げる）

Mr.Trano: こんなことにならないことを願っていたのに。まったく残念だ。
