Later that same evening Jack goes to talk to Carl about what he
and Michelle had previously discussed.
Jack: Carl, hey, you busy?
Carl: Not really.
Jack: Can we talk for a sec?
Carl: Sure, Dad. What's up?
Jack: Your mom met with Mr. Mackey
today. He seems to be concerned that things aren't going so well
in some of your classes. He said you've been struggling in History
and French. Is everything alright?
Carl: It's just…well…I find those
classes boring, Dad. All we ever talk about in History is Canadian
history, and after four years of it I'm bored.
Jack: Understandable.
Carl: And French is just getting
really difficult. I don't get why I have to take a language that
I never use. It sucks.
Jack: I know how you feel. Everyone
has subjects they hate. Even I-
Carl: But I'm doing well in Math
and Science. Isn't that enough?
Jack: No doubt you're definitely
doing well in those subjects, but the concern is that your other
classes might suffer. He also said that many of your teachers said
you seem distracted.
Carl: That's a bunch of crap!
Jack: What?
Carl: Sorry…That's not true.
Jack: That's better. I don't want
you using language like that. Anyway, I know you're trying hard.
Your mom and I are going to sort this out with Mr. What's- his-name.
In the meantime, if we can help, just ask.
Carl: Alright.
To be continued...
