I Went to Bat for You
After Jack and Michelle get back to their house, Jack goes upstairs
to Carl's room to break the news to him and to explain why he agreed
break the news to ：
on the level：
Jack: Carl, I need to talk to you
for a minute.
Carl: Did you sort everything
out with Mr.Mackey?
Jack: Well, Yes…but maybe not
the way you might want.
Carl: Aw, man!
Jack: Now just a second. He is
concerned about you and he wants you to try some tutorial classes:
but only in French and History.
Carl: That sucks!
Jack: Carl! Now look, I went to
bat for you, kid. I really did. I was against this whole thing from
the start. When I was in school, I had this problem, a condition
called dyslexia. I still have it. People used to make fun of me
and call me "stupid," and things like that. I was afraid
the same thing might happen to you. But I was wrong. This Mackey
guy seems on the level. He really seems to
want to help you.
Carl: That's too bad. I had no
idea, Dad. But tutorial class!
Jack: It's not carved in stone
you know. You can try it for a month or two, and if it doesn't help,
then you can stop. And of course, your mom and I will help you when
we can. Sound alright?
Carl: Yeah, alright. I guess.
Jack: Well, it's getting late.
I'll let you go to bed. Goodnight, Carl.
