What a mess
what a mess：
go into exile：
count for ：
whatever the reason ：
Bill: Did you see the news this
evening? Did you see President Bush's speech?
Karen: No. I've heard a few things
here and there. I guess the situation's not getting any better.
Bill: You can say that again. Bush
has given Saddam Hussein and his sons just 48 hours to leave Iraq
and go into exile, or else an invasion will begin. I can't believe
this. What the hell does Bush think he's doing? Most of the country
is against this war; and people around the world are demonstrating
against it and against America. I don't know what Bush is thinking.
Karen: I know. I mean it just shows
some of the hypocrisy that exists within our country. I thought
this was supposed to be a country where the people's opinion and
voice counted for something, but now our government is starting
to look more and more like a dictatorship.
Bill: I don't know if it's that
bad yet, but I agree the fact that Bush has openly stated he won't
listen to the opinion of the international community is disappointing.
The thing I don't understand is if Bush and the government have
such concrete evidence about these weapons of mass destruction,
why don't they just produce it and convince everyone.
Karen: It's because there is no
evidence. It's hard to say exactly what Bush's motivation is for
pursuing this conflict so vehemently, but whatever the reason I
don't believe it's a just one.
Bill: What a mess this is turning
out to be. I just pray that a miracle might happen in the next few
Karen: Me too. But for now all
we can do is wait.
