Calm Before the Storm
After giving Max about a month's breathing room, God gives Max a call
to check in on him.
lose control ：
in a way
mend one's ways：
Max: Hello, Max Freeling speaking.
God: Afternoon, Max. How are things?
Max: Oh, it's you.
God: Yes. It's been a while. Seems
like things are going pretty well for you.
Max: Yeah, yeah. I definitely feel
better about things, and I've been seeing someone. Her name's Tina.
I like her. You know, she's a lot of fun and very frisky…if you
know what I mean.
God: Yes. That's good, Max.
Max: So now that I've got everything
under control, I guess I won't be hearing from you again.
God: I don't know if you should
think about this as getting things under control, Max. I mean, the
idea here is to sort of lose control… in a way.
Max: I don't understand. I've been
thinking about things, and working hard to mend my ways.
God: I know you have, Max, and
I'm proud of you. I think things will become very clear to you soon.
But in the meantime, I'm going to stick around just a bit longer.
Max: Alright. So I guess I'll be
talking to you, then?
God: Just for a little while more.
Take care, Max.
